NEW Timetable Change — 1st July 2023 – Mornings are Best

Timetable Change

Many of you will know that I turn 65 in May. This means I am officially an “old age pensioner”. Do not worry though because I am nowhere near ready to retire. Teaching Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga has been my full time occupation since 1998. I have been at it for 25 years and I am hoping that I can get 20 more, if my body is willing and if people still want to learn from me. With this in mind I have decided that I need to make some changes to our timetable.

For some years now it has been my desire to concentrate my energy on the morning sessions. The time has never seemed right to make that transition, but I feel that this year is it.

The tricky issue for me is what to do with the evening sessions, especially as I have so many long time evening practitioners. I have been agonising over this for a while now and the reason I’m writing this is to let you all know the reasons I’m changing the timetable.

Ideally I would get some one to teach the evenings for me. There are a couple of issues with this. The first is finding the right person and the second is being able to pay them fairly for their time. To cover actual costs, I would need to have 25 people attending the evening sessions. At the moment we are not even averaging 10 people in the evenings. Also, I do not have anyone available to me who is able to take the step up to teach all the evening sessions on a permanent basis.

This leaves me with the option of making my space available for rent outside of the times I require for the new timetable. This would allow someone to bring new energy in to the space and to build their own business. Ideally this would be another Yoga teacher, but this may not be possible. I would definitely not rent the space to something incompatible with our Yoga energy. Unfortunately I feel like I have to make this decision for my own well being, so that I can sustain my teaching energy for as long as possible.

So, from 1st July 2023 Te Aro Astanga Yoga will no longer be offering evening Open Mysore Classes. I will continue to teach the Sunday Morning Led class and will offer a “Zoom” only led class on either Wed. or Thurs. evenings. The morning sessions will extend to 8.30 a.m. I’m hoping that the time between now and July will allow those who can to transition to mornings but please talk to me about options for passes if you are concerned about being unable to attend the morning classes.

Thank you, thank you ALL so much for all your love and support over the years. I hope to keep that support and to keep the Te Aro Astanga community going for many years to come. With your help I’m sure I will.

With the extra time and energy I have from my shortened timetable I’m hoping to explore some new ways to interact with you and with the wider Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga community. Keep an eye out for some exciting announcements to come. Don’t forget to sign up for my Newsletter to stay up to date and to get my blog, if you have not already done so.

I am going to start marketing the space as available outside the new timetable, from 10 a.m. Monday to Saturday and from noon on Sunday. If you or any one you know are interested please contact me; info@astanga.co.nz
